How did we get here?

If you had told me a few years ago I would be writing about studying the bible, I would have looked at you as though you’d grown an extra head. Sure I grew up in church, so I knew the stories, heard the sermons, memorized the verses, but never actually read the bible as a whole.

I started a chronological reading plan during COVID thinking it was the perfect time with being home so much. It was going well until I got to Leviticus, rough during Numbers, and ended in Deuteronomy. November of 2023 things changed. I had discovered a Christian content creator on Youtube and seeing her bible inspired me. Can you guess who it is? I decided that it was time I dug back into the bible.

I started The Bible Recap by Tara-Leigh Cobble. Not only did I have a reading plan but someone to help explain how the pieces fit together. I still felt the need to go deeper still, that’s when I was introduced to Heart Dive with Kanoe Gibson. Listening to her read and discuss the word while sharing her notes opened new doors. What started as copying her notes led to me adding notes of my own from listening to her as well as sermon notes from service.

From there, I started following my own curiosity – reading commentaries, following cross references that led to rabbit holes, journaling, and letting questions lead the way. My bible study time became less about checklists and more about conversations. Less about “getting through it” and more about letting it shape me. My one year plan has stretched to almost two but I am okay with that.

That’s what Nicosnook is all about. So, if you’re somewhere on this journey too – whether you’ve just started or you’ve been walking for a while – I hope you find something here that encourages you.
